Keywords: IBM DB2, Native XML Database
DB2 supports XML at the same footing as SQL. This implies advanced storage/indexing techniques and powerful querying capabilities for XML data. Structured and semi-structured data can be efficiently stored in the same datastore and queried using a flexible mix of SQL/XML and XQuery languages. This presentation will give an overview of the NEW DB2 Native XML capabilities such as storing, indexing, and querying XML data stored natively in DB2.

Bert Van der linden joined IBM in 2001 to work on the XML project in DB2 as one of the early architects. Bert came to IBM from a startup company, Propel, where he led the design and implementation of the distributed and fault-tolerant middleware which hosted a scalable e-commerce application. Before that Bert worked for many years at Tandem Computers on the NonStop SQL, a database that runs many critical applications in the financial industry.
